On Saturday, January 4, more than 80 players gathered to have some fun, and fellowship, on the paintball field at Baylife Church. Almost half of the players arrived from the First Baptist Church of Plant City, as their youth group enjoyed a ‘retreat’ with very unique qualities! Pastor Ricky did a great job of having his players ready to roll; with young men and ladies working together and having a great time playing paintball.
Concurrently, we offered Parent/Child day, and had more than 10 dads and TWO MOMS
(you go MOMS!!!) out playing paintball with their kids. I also saw one large guy, I think his name was Aaron Vega, out with his little cousin; does that count? Either way, how awesome to play with your kids as they get bigger. A parents biggest challenge (IMHO) as a child matures into a young adult is maintaining a friendship and figuring out when the parenting days have ended (usually much sooner than you might like). Playing paintball lets us do things with our kids as friends, and that is ultra-cool!
Best of all, Pastor Ricky laid some good words on the kids at lunch while the players
enjoyed a pasta meal (yes, Mom we had some salad too). Like many of us, Ricky went thru a dumb time in his life, and he selflessly shared that story as he encouraged the kids to hold to the faith of Christ and understand we all have an important place in the Kingdom of God.
As always, there are way too many people to thank – with more than 20 volunteers helping to make the event happen. We also cannot thank Aaron Vega and the crew at Tiki’s Paintball (and some of the Revolution boys) for helping get more paint; and most importantly, for getting the compressor. With so many players, air was running low quickly, and Vega and gang had the compressor out and running before lunch so everyone could continue play into the afternoon. Of course, we also thank Baylife Church; for the last ten years they have allowed this great game to continue woodside – thanks Pastor Mark and team! God is Good.
