WFC2 Takes First Place at 2013 CFPS Event 1 in D5!!!

Playing their first event together as a line, Captain David Dickerson and his teammates took first place at the CFPS 2013 Event 1 in Division 5! Most importantly, they did it with complete integrity, character, and sportsmanship; never bringing shame to the Cross and the Flag that we wear so proudly. As leaders, we could not be more proud of these young men who battled under duress and stayed together as a team, working to achieve the high triumph. And as always, a HUGE thanks goes to the volunteers and parents who worked all day as support, including our outstanding pod guy, pod fillers, and of course, Sgt. Jimmy must be thanked! And the list goes on with thanks to the Team Moms – Mrs’ Dickerson, Green, and Rivera! And thanks to coaches Troy Purdue and Mike Brozak,

along with all the other team members who helped in the pits and tents (if I try to name everyone I will miss someone – I don’t know that a line has ever had so much support and help!). The toughest job of the day went to Coach Mike Brozak, who had the impossible job of figuring out who to play, as every individual player on the team was rolling. You can see the score board here. We also want to thank CFPS for an awesome event, with a special thanks to the outstanding referees and Nick “Chip” (LOL) Carter, lead field ref, who did a great job of balancing rules and fairness (allowing some of the newer teams unfamiliar with the format to get a bit of extra time, etc).  And last but not least by any means, a HUGE thanks to team member Christian James, who selflessly helped the weekend before getting the guys ready while Coach Mike dealt with a broken down vehicle.

Competing against 24 other teams, the boys stormed through the prelims, posting an 8-1 total points mark and going 4-0 against the other four teams in their prelim bracket. Taking the top seed was a huge accomplishment, something WFC2 has not done in previous tournaments. Not content with this milestone, the boys waited (top four seeds got a bye for the first round of the playoffs) to see who they would play next – and Running Riot came on deck. This was going to be a tough match up, as we have scrimmaged against them and knew the quality of the opponent. We note they are also a good bunch of dudes.

Winning the first point against Running Riot, the next point was a disaster and the score was tied for a tense third point. No worries, the boys rolled and moved into the semifinals to face Team Who, the victor over Total Karnage Kids. Having played Team Who in the prelims, we expected a tough match and got it, prevailing 2-1 in a very tightly contested match. We are sure to see them again, as they are a tough out, but only one team could advance to the finals and WFC2 was still rolling on!!!

In the finals against Team D.N.R., WFC2 faced their first real adversity of the day when they lost the first point. However, the team had not failed all day to win the point following a loss, so confidence was high as the team ran back onto the field for a must win point. After a tense few minutes, our snake side took the heat while the D-side ravaged and the second point went to WFC2, setting up a final point for the championship. However, with a clock involved too, only a few moments remained for the third point and the time expired, setting up an overtime point for all the marbles…but we were TOTALLY out of paint and only two minutes remained between points.

Thankfully, God was good (as He always is!!!) and Route 7 (another wonderful group of Christians playing paintball and making it ministry) was still around watching our match and had paint available and podded to boot, so off the boys went to face overtime for a chance to win our first championship. Hardly able to watch, parents held their breath and the boys delivered, playing some awesome paintball and rolling to victory! What an incredible achievement, worthy of celebration and rejoicing – and the boys delivered on that too! Jubilant and victorious, the boys lined up to congratulate their fallen foes, who deserve great praise too as they took second place in their very first tournament as a team.

Congratulations to the line of Captain David Dickerson; ably manned by snake side players Danny Barry and Samuel Rivera; D side players Conner Brozak, Adrian Rivera, and Ryan Wallace; and mid/insert players Casey Lynch and Alex Kingen. What a remarkable accomplishment, achieved by a group of hard-working young men who are exemplary in every facet of their lives. Roll the Poo boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
